So, this is our new reality! The fact is that most large companies thought they needed their work to be conducted in massive warehouses or office buildings, separated by endless cubicles. No one ever anticipated that we could truly work from home, but we can… we just need to find the space to do it! I am designing new offices in homes all over New York and New Jersey. Not everyone can find somewhere in their existing spaces to throw a desk. At first we created makeshift office spaces to get up and running. Now that so many are becoming permanent remote workers, let’s take our spaces a bit more seriously and create a calming, beautiful and comfortable space in our homes and apartments to work.
Here is my first room design of what I will attempt showcasing pieces that can be incorporated into your home to create a work sanctuary that goes beyond the mundane cubicle you tried to decorate to make look “cute”.
Office desks can oftentimes be bulky and consume a lot of visual, as well as physical space. This desk set by Riverside Furniture is minimalist, yet warm. Many of us just need a space to focus on work, taking us away from sitting on the sofa or dining room table. This desk is nearly the width of a bathtub, yet sleek and open. It serves just enough function to hold your laptop and some basic office supplies. To keep the clean look, I added wall mounted storage with these color coordinated wall cups and shelves by Poppin. If you happen to need file storage, you can add this low, lateral file cabinet, which is also in the collection.
What I love about this collection, outside of the warm, yet modern feel of it’s design, is the sandblasted gray stain which compliments so many color palettes. I can use many different paint colors on the wall and add it into a plethora of existing spaces without having to swap out the furniture. Speaking of furniture, let’s talk about this comfy, modern sofa from Universal Furniture. It’s the Donovan and comes in endless fabric choices to personalize your living room space. It’s also offered in a chaise version.
